Japanese stab binding makes structure visible. Thread travels across the spine in precise patterns, joining cover and pages without hiding the work under cloth or leather.

In this beginner-friendly BOOKFORGE workshop, participants learn four traditional sewing patterns and build four small books by hand. The session covers paper preparation, punching, thread path, sewing order, tension, corner turns, knot placement, and the practical differences between decorative pattern and sound construction. Repetition across four structures gives you time to understand the logic rather than merely copy a single finished example.

No previous bookbinding experience is required. Participants leave with four completed books and a foundation they can use for journals, travel sketches, memory books, letters, tasting notes, and future binding experiments.
